GTA 5 Keeps Dominating with 5 Million Sales Every Quarter, Red Dead Redemption 2 Becomes Best-Selling Game of the Past 7 Years in the US

Despite the growing anticipation for GTA 6, Rockstar Games’ flagship titles continue to deliver record-breaking numbers. According to the latest financial report from publisher Take-Two Interactive, Grand Theft Auto V has now sold over 215 million units, with 5 million copies sold each quarter—a remarkable feat for a game that launched in 2013.

Take-Two confirmed that even amid rising expectations for GTA 6, scheduled for release in 2025, GTA 5 maintains its momentum, further solidifying its status as a gaming juggernaut. The publisher referred to it as the “standard-bearer for the industry”, highlighting its dominance across three console generations and its ongoing success through GTA Online.

Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption 2 also continues to perform exceptionally well. The critically acclaimed western title has sold 4 million units in the last quarter, bringing its total sales to over 61 million globally. Based on data from industry analyst group Circana, RDR2 is now the best-selling title in the US over the past seven years in terms of dollar sales.

While GTA Online continues to receive regular content updates and player engagement remains high, fans of Red Dead Online have expressed disappointment over the lack of new content, despite the franchise’s impressive sales.

With both titles showing strong, consistent performance, expectations for GTA 6 are sky-high. As Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick noted during an investor Q&A, GTA 5 has set an unprecedented benchmark—but Rockstar isn’t taking anything for granted. The gaming world now waits to see whether GTA 6 can surpass this towering legacy.
